Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)
MLD is a gentle, non-invasive manual technique developed by Dr. Emil Vodder. Specific sequences are
performed to encourage flow of lymph, facilitate drainage, and reduce congestion among the tissues in the body.
MLD affects the nervous system by lowering sympathetic activity, so it can be used when areas may be too
tender for more aggressive therapies. MLD is calming and relaxing and patients often feel a
sense of well-being after treatment.
MLD is useful and can speed recovery for many different conditions including:
- General swelling (pregnancy, lower legs)
- Sports injuries (sprains and strains)
- Before and after cosmetic or general surgery
- Skin conditions (acne, eczema, psoriasis)
- Poor circulation
